Reading the cooking portion of this newsletter is hunger inducing! I'm a long-time fan of your books - have cooked out of them happily for decades.

I'm so sorry about Tashi - I cannot imagine the grief of losing a child. I hope the good memories will eventually be a source of comfort in the face of your grief.

As an American deeply horrified by everything Trump does I feel so sickened by his thoughtless, evil narcissism. Professor Snyder has been all too right about this. Barbarism indeed.

Pas facile pour toi 😔 It is good you still have passion for cooking and inspiration. Learning history often can be pursued unexpectedly by a country by a silent contribution of another country. We are actually watching a series about dictators of the world on Radio Canada which is very much revealing of what happened in the past. Let’s cross our fingers 😱

Yes history can illuminate what's happening now, for sure

Bon courage Naomi, you have a lifetime to live with your loss, but à strength lncroyable. Our kitchens carry us through desperate times. I am grateful to both have food to cook with and that I know how to cook. Bisou.

On my list of dishes to make when I eventually get home.

Stay strong, all things must pass and as humans we find a way to recover. Always.

I’m glad to hear you had the comfort of the kitchen this week. That garlic and anchovy sauce sounds delicious and incredibly useful! It all does!

How wonderful you got to see Professor Snyder’s lecture. U of T is so fortunate to have him there. Have you read his book “On Freedom”? More great thoughts along the same lines as your comments. I’ve been enjoying your Substack so much and now look forward to each week’s instalment of your thoughts. I love how you bare your soul. I hope it helps as a balm for your grief. And I’m drooling over the thought of that sabzi. I have not been happy with my tahdig rice either, so I will now follow your friend Serge’s advice, as well as paying attention to your instructions.

Thanks Laura. I find it so helpful to work at expressing what's going on...it's a way of grounding things, grounding myself in this maelstrom of personal and global distress
