Hard to say I "like" this but it's speaking truth. I'm reading an impressive book, recommended by an anthropologist friend, by the Harvard anthro Richard Wrangham, called Demonic Males: Apes and the Origins of Human Violence. It is riveting, fascinating, disturbing. I still haven't got to the heart of the violence gene but it seems we are the only species that regularly assaults and destroys its own kind. And all too often it seems to be done out of some sort of boredom with things as they are. Hideous! How to stop it?
And at the same time this is happening, immigrants and refugees, in search of a better life, are being handcuffed and sent back to the countries they fled or to God knows where. I'm sitting in my chair listening to bird song behind me, wishing everyone had a chance in life to make the most of it. Sadly, that is far from the case.
It should say yet another war was intentionally and systematically started to see if the wealthy are getting their money's worth of protection from the people whose lives they never cared about, who were always just potential assets in a matrix of capitalism whose goal is to suck the life force, the dreams, the hope, and the freedom out of them to enslave them as debtors. Yet another round of The Crusades, where White Christians use their self appointed authority and supremacy to do whatever they want to, demurring it is in GOD's name. Cruelty is their point. Deprivation wrecked upon others, too much for them to handle themselves, so someone else is forced to suffer for their sins. Lives are like mushrooms to them, more will pop up. Although the majority of us in the USA hate the man, we too have become victims. They couldn't be happier that Muslims and Jews are at war. Or that people are dying from starvation or bombs or burnt alive by explosions. It's always the religious leaders, making shit up, to justify the suffering and preying on fear that fills their coffers. China negotiated a trade deal with the US, but didn't cede access to the minerals they want and need to wage war. Trump gets played again and again, but the world has become too stupid to question the media. The GOP has become too fearful of questioning Trump. And businesses small and large are too fearful or greedy to act. But the people will still get likes on social media, by any means necessary, especially if it sells something. Because that's what 100 years of social gets us.
I am right smack in the middle of this. Missiles whistle above, sitting in an underground shelter, helpless to change anything, I couldn’t agree more.
